Hanoded.
Hanoded is a type foundry based in the Netherlands and run by David Kerkhoff. The foundry specializes in hand-printed typefaces, using brushes, pens, ink, and paint to create a collection of unique font families. Hanoded fonts have their own personality and flair, with each font family often following its own distinct theme. The typefaces are frequently seen in consumer goods packaging, books (especially children’s books and fantasy stories), and movie titles.
Market Square
The Market Square font family was created for actual use at a farmer’s market. It consists of 4 different fonts (each with its own Italic style), ranging from a fat marker font to a thin, squarish font. Each of them oozes freshness and authenticity and they were designed to complement each other. The cherry on top is the cute doodle font, loaded with fresh produce and seafood - just like you’d see at a real market square.
Lemon Yellow Sun
Lemon Yellow Sun, named after a line from the designer’s favorite Pearl Jam song, is one of Hanoded’s most popular typefaces. The font is a tall, all caps typeface with lots of bouncy glyphs and diacritics, and upper and lowercase letters designed to mingle.
Kingsmead Script
KIngsmead Script is a stylish yet old-fashioned font, named after an electoral ward within the city of Bath in England, famous for the Roman Baths in the city center. A handmade font, Kingsmead Script comes with diacritics and some discretionary ligatures for double lowercase letter combinations.
Crayon Crumble
Crayon Crumble is exactly what it reads on the package: it was made using cheap crayons, since the cheapies crumble a lot. It is a fun, kiddie font, but with a grown-up look. It comes with all the accents.
Fleabitten
This font family was created from the designer’s love for flea markets, second-hand stores, and anything “pre-loved”, as a way to do his part in helping the planet. Fleabitten is a Western style serif font, perfect for line dance festival posters.
Dragon Spell
Dragon Spell is a magical handmade font created with a small brush and Chinese ink that comes with a realm of diacritics. It can be used for spells, books of magic, or even creepy Halloween cards.
Languedoc
Languedoc, a former province of France now located in the Occitaine region, is a favorite camping spot for the designer and his family. The font itself is a beautiful and useful typeface: it is a handmade serif that is a bit rough around the edges, but very legible and fun to use, and it comes with a large amount of diacritics. Because of its legibility, Languedoc works well for texts, product packaging, and cookbooks.
Pundak
A “Pundak” is a combined restaurant and gas station where you can order food such as fries, schnitzel, and salad. Inspired by a pundak where the designer used to work, this font family is an all caps, contoured font with all the diacritics. It is ideal for packaging, headlines, and posters.
Southwark
The designer named this font after one of his favorite cities: London - or rather, a county bordering the city of London. The name “Southwark” comes from the Anglo-Saxon word Suthriganaweorc, which means “Fort of the men of Surrey”. Southwark is a handmade Clarendon, created using a Japanese brush pen for the outlines and a brush and Chinese ink to give the glyphs texture. The font family’s uneven look and brushy texture works well on posters, greeting cards, and product packaging.
Reluctant Aviator
Reluctant Aviator is handmade with pen and paper. It has a rough edge, some shaky glyphs, a lot of bravado, as well as diacritics and swashes. The font was inspired by a story about a cat who snuck onboard a 1910 “airship” that was attempting to cross the Atlantic Ocean and was found by the pilot while in-flight. Unfortunately, the pair did not complete the journey, but they were rescued.
Blackminster
Blackminster is a Gothic font, inspired by a handwritten set of letters (created by Harry Lawrence Gage) that the designer found in a 1916 book about lettering. The family comes with many diacritics and an alternate swashy g and y. Blackminster works well on anything that requires a Gothic look, including Gothic fiction books, metal album covers, skateboards, and downhill mountain bikes.
Crowfeather
Crowfeather is a family of two distinct fonts that work well together: a classic Serif and an old school script font. The font is loosely named after Olaf Tryggvason, the legendary Norwegian Viking king.
Lucky Goldfish
The Lucky Goldfish font is a cute and happy typeface, ideally suited for book covers, posters, and toy packaging. It is offered in two styles, Regular and Italic, and comes with many diacritics.
